ROAD SAFE WITH ALLSTATE

We love to go out as a family to explore. In the weekends, we always look for new places to visit. We love to go to the park with Diego, create new memories with our son, play the guitar (Diego loves musical instruments), play ball and enjoy nature are all the most incredible things we can do for our children.

Something that is very important to us is safety when we go on the road or simply when we go to the park 15 minutes away from the house. Taking necessary precaution when driving our vehicle is essential.

  1. It is essential to check that Diego's car seat is correctly placed, secured, and adjusted to his body.
  2. I admit that I have a lot of toys and safe distractions for Diego as soon as I go on the road so I will not have to distract myself in passing him anything as I drive.
  3. I never turn to give anything to Diego as I drive. The safe thing to do is to park somewhere to prevent an accident.
  4. I leave all electronic distraction out of my reach.

 Allstate recently released their 13

th

 Annual

America’s Best Drivers

,

According to the report of

Allstate America's Best driver repost of 2017

, Laredo, Texas came in 7th place in all of the United States. It is something that makes us happy and optimistic to continue contributing to make our city's streets safer every year.

I admit that as I write about the road statistics, I have been deeply impacted by this topic. Reminding myself (because it is something we all know but do not always pay attention to) of the responsibility we have as we drive, not only for our safety and our loved ones', but also for those who share the road with us.

As I researched information on something so common and concerning like the distraction while driving, I can easily say it is this millennium's wrong doing. Technology dominates us and radically changes the way we proceed while driving.

I know that all of us who drive a motor vehicle have committed the following errors: drive with the cellphone in hand, drink or eat food, play loud music, or look through compartments in the vehicle all while we are driving. I know that all of us at one point has done this, and we do it so automatically, that we have ignored the importance of the danger in doing these things while driving.

Allstate is calling on drivers to avoid distractions behind the wheel, especially with safety experts finding distracted driving killed almost 3,500 people and injured nearly 400,000 in the U.S. in 2015.

To drive home its message, Allstate is launching its fifth annual Reality Rides

®

tour, featuring a simulator that provides a safe environment to learn about the often devastating, but preventable, impact of distracted driving. This year’s tour will stop in 50 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, more than double last year’s events.

The Reality Rides simulator is a stationary vehicle with virtual reality LED screens across the windshield, displaying animated scenarios drivers often encounter. Using the steering wheel, gas and brake pedals, operators try to navigate those situations while also attempting to text message, answer phone calls or use in-car technology like GPS, all activities that frequently distract drivers in real life. Afterward, participants receive “traffic citations” that highlight real infractions they’ve committed during their simulations.

This year, Reality Rides also offers new features and enhanced technology, including touch-screen monitors that display distracted-driving facts and allow participants to take selfies to share on social media as GIFs.
